FIS Pistenregeln

10 rules for safe slopes

  • Respect for others: every skier must behave in such a way that they do not endanger or harm others.
  • Control of speed and skiing: every skier must ski in a way that is safe for themselves. They must adapt their speed and skiing to their ability and to the terrain, snow and weather conditions, as well as to the density of traffic.
  • Lane choice: A skier coming from behind must choose his lane in such a way that he does not endanger skiers in front.
  • Overtaking: You may overtake from above or below, from right or left, but always only at a distance that leaves the skier being overtaken enough space for all his movements.
  • Entering and starting: A skier entering a ski slope or starting again after stopping must look up and down the slopes to ensure that they can do so without endangering themselves or others.
  • Stopping: Unless absolutely necessary, a skier must avoid stopping on a slope in narrow places or where visibility is restricted. If a skier falls and is unable to move, they must vacate the slope as soon as possible.
  • Ascent and descent: A skier either climbing or descending on foot must use the side of the slope.
  • Pay attention to signs: A skier must respect all signs and signals.
  • Assistance: A skier is obliged to assist other skiers involved in an accident.
  • ID requirement: Every skier and snowboarder, whether a witness or a party to the accident, whether responsible or not, must exchange names and addresses following an accident.

Drone flight ban

Flying over crowds of people and buildings is generally prohibited in Austria, so flying over ski slopes and in ski resorts is not legally permitted per se. In addition, neither photo nor film recordings may be made and saved.
