World first: lift powered by 100% solar energy

News | 14.01.2009

With the construction of the 8-seater "SkiWeltbahn" gondola lift in Brixen to the Westendorfer Choralpe, Bergbahn Brixen will close the last bottleneck in the ski network from winter 2008/09. With this connection, Westendorf is now fully integrated into the SkiWelt.

The new T-bar lift called "Sonnenlift" in Brixen is powered by a photovoltaic system. The solar panels are located on the south side of the new valley station. Thanks to the energy generated, the Sonnenlift can be operated 100% with the power of the sun. Even in the event of bad weather, the system has enough energy stored to be operated exclusively by solar power.

New departure to Brixen

The new 5.5 km long downhill run (Choralpe - Brixen) has been open since winter 2007/08!

Skiers and boarders can make their turns on the new long piste - with an altitude difference of 1,020 meters probably one of the most beautiful runs of all. A shuttle service will be set up from the end of the piste to the Hochbrixen valley station so that snow lovers can get to the valley station in comfort.
From 2008/2009,a conveyor belt and a solar-powered T-bar lift will transport skiers from the end of the piste in the area of the Brixen bathing lake directly to the new valley station. This will be built on the opposite side of the road to the existing cable car station on the sunny side. A bridge over the Brixental main road will connect the two buildings.

Vision: Connection SkiWelt and KitzSki

The construction of the new 8-seater gondola lift brings the vision of connecting the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental (91 lifts, 279 kilometers of pistes) with the Kitzbühel ski area (55 lifts, 168 kilometers of pistes) ever closer. This merger, together with Les Trois Vallées and the Megéve-Mont-Blanc region, will make it one of the three largest connected ski areas in the world!
