Bike swing - Stage 14

Bike tour Niederau/Wildschönau - Kirchberg

The 14th stage of the Tyrolean Bike Swing consists of four mountain railroads that add up to over 3,000 meters of descent. A total of 1,000 m of ascent by bike, excluding the altitude meters covered by cable car.

  • Starting point: Niederau (Wildschönau)
  • Length: 45.5 km
  • Elevation gain: 3,445 m (1,000 m by bike | rest by cable car)

Directions

Stage 1: From Niederau, the Markbachjochbahn takes you up the first hill of the day. The descent is brisk with numerous hairpin bends along the Grafenweg down to Hopfgarten, where the cable car to the Hohe Salve (Salvenbahn) is waiting for you.

Stage 2: Salvenbahn cable car to Hopfgarten

Stage 3: From the middle station of the Salvenbahn, continue to the right, climbing around 200 meters in altitude, before the descent into the Brixental valley begins. At the bottom of the valley, cross the main road and ride up the opposite side of the valley to Westendorf. In the center of Westendorf, you will easily find the well-signposted valley station of the Alpenrosenbahn cable car.

Stage 4: Alpenrosenbahn cable car in Westendorf

Stage 5: The Alpenrosenbahn takes you up to the mountain station, where the paths of trail riders and bikers on the normal route diverge.
*Those who choose the normal route head north to the Choralpe. From there, the trail first leads across a meadow and then down to Brixen on gravel to the Hochbrixen gondola lift, which takes you uphill again. (Hochbrixen cable car - Brixen im Thale)

Stage 6: Trail riders first have to earn their descent: From the Alpenrosenbahn mountain station, the route leads via the Brechhornhaus to the Kreuzjöchlsee lake. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the highest point of the tour before heading downhill on gravel and later on the Harlassanger Trail (S1) to Kirchberg. If you want to experience even more trails, you can take the Gaisberg lift from Kirchberg and choose between the "Lisi Osl Trail" (S2) and the "Gaisbergtrail" (S2-S3 in the key sections).

Stage 7: After a short detour to the Filzalmsee lake near the mountain station, you return to the valley on a fast asphalt route. Here you can finally let your brakes cool down on the cycle path back to Kirchberg. In Kirchberg you have reached the end point of the bike swing "Stage 14"!
