Mountain fires in Brixental

23.08.2025

The ‘Brixentaler Bergleuchten’ mountain fires are a traditional way of celebrating summer in the towns of Kirchberg in Tirol, Brixen im Thale, Westendorf, Hopfgarten and Itter: Thousands of burning torches light up the night and the surrounding mountains.

When dawn breaks in the valley of Brixental, spectators are greeted by a flaming spectacle: over 50,000 torches now form impressive fire images on the mountain hillsides of Brixental, for example the musical lyre, ski racers or our farmers' scythes and rakes. Every year, the ‘Bergleuchten’ enchants locals and guests again when the local clubs, restaurants and institutions from the Brixental Valley display their symbols, emblems and writing on the freshly mown ‘natural canvases’. In the evening, the works of art are lit and transform the valley and the mountains into a flickering night sky. An additional programme with mountain fire festivals and lift opening hours in the evening complete this unique experience.

This event only takes place in good weather!
